Early Life & Education – Elsa Pataky was born Elsa Lafuente Medianu on 18 July 1976 in Madrid, Spain, to Cristina Medianu Pataky and José Francisco Lafuente. Her father is a Spanish biochemist whereas her mother is a famous publicist. She has a younger half-brother named Cristian Prieto Medianu who is a cinematographic director. She went to Universidad CEU San Pablo where she studied Journalism. Later, she also took acting classes to pursue her dream of becoming an actor.

Career – While studying Journalism, she was a member of a Madrid theater company called Teatro Cámara de Ángel Gutiérrez. She left the university when she was chosen to play Raquel Alonso in a Spanish teen drama Al salir de clase. She was in the lead role and appeared in 192 episodes. It was her debut appearance and her performance was appreciated by the audience and critics. Following that, she starred in a short film titled Solo en la buhardilla in which she played Chica revista.

In 2000, she guest-starred in the romance drama television series Hospital Central. That same year, Pataky was cast as Vera Hidalgo in the Canadian action-adventure series Queen of Swords.
