
Disney+ has greenlighted the most awaited project “Obi-Wan Kenobi” in the form of television series which was initially supposed to be made in film format. During Disney’s D23 event, Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, confirmed the TV series Obi-Wan Kenobi is on its way exclusively to premiere on Disney+. Obi-Wan Kenobi is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. He is the most beloved character among all of the Star Wars characters. Disney CEO Bob Iger had been looking to make several Star Wars standalone spin-off films since February 2013 but things were not in the favor which is why the project kept delayed several times. Now, the show is finally on its way.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Release Date
Disney+ took to Twitter and announced the release date of the show. It captioned “Obi-Wan Kenobi, a limited Original series, starts streaming May 25 on #DisneyPlus.”
It was planned to make a feature film based on the Star Wars character of the same name but makers turned it into a limited series after the failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018).
It later went on to indefinite hold because Lucasfilm was unhappy with the scripts and wanted some changes in the scripts. Harold was on board to write the script in April 2020.
The series is finally arriving on Disney+ on May 25, 2022, and will consist of six episodes but the whole series will be available for streaming or weekly episodes will be rolled out is yet to be confirmed.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Cast
Ewan McGregor is on board as an executive producer and star in the series where he will reprise his role as titular Obi-Wan Kenobi from the Star Wars prequel trilogy. Along with him, Hayden Christensen, Joel Edgerton, and Bonnie Piesse confirmed to reprise their roles from the prequel trilogy.
In March 2021, some additional casts were announced to be board on the show by the creators. They will be in pivotal roles but what roles have been offered to them is yet to be unveiled. Their roles and characters are still under the wraps.

According to starwars.com, “The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, in which Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat — the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side and became the evil Sith Lord, Darth Vader”.
