Early Life & Education – Greta Celeste Gerwig was born on August 4, 1983, in Sacramento, California, to Gordon Gerwig and Christine (née Sauer). Her father worked in the loan department for a credit union whereas her mother was an OB-GYN nurse. Her older brother is a landscape architect whereas her sister works as a manager at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She graduated from St. Francis High School in 2002 which was an all-girls school located in Sacramento. After that, she attended Barnard College majoring in English and Philosophy.
Career – She showed an early interest in playwright but ended up becoming an actress when she was not admitted to MFA in her desired program. She made her acting debut in the 2006 independent film LOL while studying at Barnard. Her next appearance was in the comedy horror Baghead where she had a minor role as Michelle. Just after that, Greta started co-writing the independent film Hannah Takes the Stairs with Joe Swanberg. Later, the duo worked together on another project titled Nights and Weekends.
She then starred in a couple of short films titled Quick Feet, Soft Hands, I Thought You Finally Completely Lost It, and You Wont Miss Me. Greta next acted as Megan in the 2009 horror film The House of the Devil. Her performance in the comedy film Greenberg was appreciated by critics and the audience.
