Early Life & Education – She was born on August 9, 1983, in Camarillo, California, U.S. Her mother, Nancy (née Spruiell) is a former independent filmmaker and her father, Clifford Johnson was the exploration ship captain. When Ashley was nine days old, her father started a new job due to which they had to move to Franklin, Michigan. Her family lived for a couple of years over there and then returned to California, and finally settled in Los Angeles. At 15, she completed her graduation from a private school. Later, she attended the International School of Music where she studied violin and piano.
Career – She made her acting debut at the age of six after landing a small role on the sitcom Growing Pains where Ashley played Chrissy Seaver. Her performance won three Young Artist Awards nominations and the actor later reprised her role in two TV films titled The Growing Pains Movie (2000) and Growing Pains: Return of the Seavers (2004). She started her film career as a child actor in Sheldon Lettich’s action drama Lionheart in which she was cast as Nicole Gaultier.
Ashley bagged the main role of Mary Margaret Doolan in the American sitcom Phenom appearing alongside Angela Goethals, Judith Light, Todd Louiso, William Devane, and Jennifer Len. She was seen in all 22 episodes for a season. After that, she appeared as Casey Emmerson in 12 episodes of the American sitcom All-American Girl, which aired on ABC for only one season. In the 1995 romantic comedy film Nine Months, Ashley played Shannon Dwyer along with Hugh Grant and Julianne Moore.
