Ashleigh Cummings was born on November 11, 1992, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where her parents were employed by the Saudi Royal family, but when she turned twelve her family moved to Australia. She has a younger sister named Hannah.
Cummings was just two years old when she started taking ballet classes. At the age of 14, she went to the Brent Street School of Performing Arts where she studied dance and acting. She then joined Wenona School in North Sydney where she got her high school degree in 2010. She then attended Screenwise, an Australian Film and Television School for actors. Meanwhile, she completed an online Philosophy course at Sydney and Macquarie universities.
Finally, she made her screen debut with a musical comedy Razzle Dazzle: A Journey Into Dance where she starred as a dancer. In the following years, she starred in Green Fire Envy, Dream Life, and Home and Away.
Her breakthrough role came when she was cast as Robyn Mathers in 2010’s action-adventure war film Tomorrow, When the War Began which was based on the John Marsden book of the same name. For which, she received a nomination for Best Young Actor at the 2010 Australian Film Institute Awards.
