Yellowjackets Season 2 Release Date, Cast, Plot, & More Details

You definitely have binged the intriguing mysterious thriller Yellowjackets and might have been thinking the show will not get renewed for its forthcoming season because the series was supposed to be a limited one. The good news is Showtime has renewed the horror-thriller for season 2 even before the Yellowjackets season 1 final episode which will be aired on January 16, 2022.

The show got its early renewal announcement because season 1 has become immediately a critical hit with the 4 million of viewership upon its debut on November 14, officially revealed by the network Showtime. The show scored 100% All Critics on Rottentomatoes whereas 78% Avg Audience Score.

Gary Levine, the president of Showtime, told to Deadline “It was our second biggest series debut ever on streaming, and it’s grown each week on streaming by double-digit percentages. In terms of acclaim, in terms of buzz – no pun intended — and in terms of hard numbers, this show has just exploded. For it to be embraced as quickly and as deeply as it was by both audiences and critics alike, that’s a little like catching lightning in a bottle — you can never anticipate that but boy, it’s awfully sweet when it rarely happens.”

Additionally, he praised the show stating “We are overwhelmed by both the acclaim and the audience response to our series, including several ‘Best of 2021’ lists, a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes and snowballing viewership. Clearly, there is a hunger for originality and audacity, and our incredible showrunners Ashley, Bart and Jonathan, along with their pitch-perfect cast, have delivered that and so much more. I can’t wait to see the surprises they have in store for us in Season 2.”

Yellowjackets Season 2 Release Date

A month before, the first episode of Yellowjackets Season 1 was aired on the Network and still five episodes of the show has to be released. Though, the announcement of the new season has been made a little early due to seeing the success of the show. But, Nothing can’t be spoken about the release date of its forthcoming season.

Yellowjackets season 1 finale will be broadcast on January 16, 2022. As per Deadline, Its’ finale only just completed the editing when the official announcement was made about the new season. It is believed the filming will begin in June 2022 and, will be available for streaming in late 2022.

Yellowjackets Season 2 Cast

Melanie Lynskey, Juliette Lewis, Christina Ricci, and Tawny Cypress are present-day survivors of Shauna, Natalie, Misty, and Tai, respectively will be seen in Yellowjackets Season 2. Additionally, Warren Kole and Rukiya Bernard will also probably be seen as Shaun and Tai’s respective spouses, Jeff and Simone, along with Sarah Desjardins and Aiden Stoxx as their respective children, Callie and Sammy.

It is unclear upon returning Peter Gadiot and Alex Wyndham as Shauna and Nat’s love interests, Adam and Kevyn.

Yellowjackets Season 2 Plot

In this first season, we see two different timelines in the plot. The first one, when the plane crashed in 1996 into an unknown wilderness where a girl’s high school soccer team left to survive on their own. The other one, some of them have been able to come out of the wilderness alive after 19 months and how their lives still connected with that incident even after 25 years.

The first season of the show has not ended yet so what would be the story for its upcoming season can’t be presumed. After having seen the five episodes of the show, it seems the story will definitely need two seasons to cover the complete plot with a detailed explanation. If the story ends in the mid of the first season then we will be seeing the rest of the story in the second season as well.
