Netflix’s most popular show Dark is quite unique in its own way. From its storyline to cast performance, everything was perfect. The series is undoubtedly different from any other time-traveling TV show and film. It takes time to make you interested but once you began watching the series, you definitely ended up watching the complete series. Well, this article is now about the Dark series but it is about its creator.

Netflix’s upcoming show 1899 is on its way and being created by Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar who jointly made the German thriller series Dark, which was a huge hit on the platform and received several awards and nominations as well. Fans have been expecting something the same with Netflix’s new series 1899. The creators dropped its teaser to give at least a hint of what is this going to be about.

As the title suggests, 1899 will be an epic period mystery-drama and some thriller/horror elements will be there too as per the official synopsis.

Netflix’s 1899 Release Date

The announcement was made on November 13, 2018, that the series called 1899 is happening as part of the deal between the streaming platform and show creators. By July 2020, the pilot for the series had been written and confirmed by Baran bo Odar via his Instagram handle. Filming began sometime early in 2021 and wrapped up in November 2021 after shooting for 160 days.

1899 was supposed to be released late in 2021 but the delay in production start and wrap-up halted the release date. During Netflix’s Tuduam global fan event, it is announced 1899 would stream on November 17, 2022. You can find the latest news about the show here.

Netflix’s 1899 Cast

On December 16, 2020, It was announced that Cannes Film Festival award-winner Emily Beecham has been cast in the main lead role of Maura Franklin. She is best known for her performances in Hail, Into the Badlands, and Little Joe.

Later, Andreas Pietschmann who played older Jonas in Dark also approached to be part of the series. On May 2, 2021, It was confirmed, that he is set to star in the show. Along with Pietschmann, Dunkirk actor Aneurin Barnard and Elite star Miguel Bernardeau will also be in pivotal roles.

Netflix’s 1899 Trailer

In May 2021, The show creator dropped a short teaser for the period mystery drama 1899. The 1:04 minutes long teaser featured a ship in the open sea an echoing female voice in the native and thundering clouds adding some horror elements to the teaser. Check it out below.

Netflix’s 1899 Plot

As the title suggests, It is set in 1899 and follows a group of immigrants who are leaving London and searching for a new life in the new city. They are heading to New York, United States in the hope of a good future and life. Each passenger on the ship is traveling with their secrets that they don’t want to be revealed. When they come across another missing ship for quite some time, their journey takes a surprising turn.

Netflix revealed the official synopsis along with the teaser released.

A migrant steamship heads west to leave the old continent. The passengers, a mixed bag of European origins, united by their hopes and dreams for the new century and their future abroad. But their journey takes an unexpected turn when they discover another migrant ship adrift on open sea. What they will find on board, will turn their passage to the promised land into a horrifying nightmare.

Netflix’s 1899 Episodes Count

The show will have eight one-hour episodes in the first season. Baran bo Odar revealed the title of the pilot episode named “The Ship” via his Instagram handle. Fans are delighted that they at least get a glimpse of the show but they can’t wait for this TV series to be released.
