Blumhouse’s latest time travel slasher comedy Totally Killer dropped on Amazon Prime Video on October 6, 2023. Directed by Nahnatchka Khan, the film features Kiernan Shipka, Olivia Holt, Charlie Gillespie, and Troy L. Johnson in the leading roles.

The film is about Jamie Hughes who travels back to 1987 after her mother is killed by the Sweet 16 Killer, who returns 35 years after the first murder spree. She teams up with her mom in order to stop the killer, saving her mother, and other victims. Jamie must catch the killer and return to her timeline before she is trapped in the past forever.

Totally Killer is fun to watch for sure. It is a blend of slasher and comedy which makes it one of the best movies of this year. Happy Death Day

Christopher Landon’s Happy Death Day is an enjoyable film that met with positive reviews from fans upon release in 2017. The film is about a college student Theresa “Tree” Gelbman who is murdered on her birthday night and finds herself reliving the same day over and over until she discovers her murderer.

It was not a typical horror film that frightened you, but it gave you chill and pure delight with elements of comedy, horror, and romance. Jessica Rothe’s captivating performance won the hearts of many as she nailed the character, adding humor that engaged the audience.

Directed by Christopher Landon and written by Scott Lobdell, ‘Happy Death Day’ was produced by Jason Blum through his Blumhouse Productions banner. The film was released on October 13, 2017, and grossed $125 million worldwide on a $4.8 million budget.

The Final Girls

The Final Girls has an interesting plot that hooks the audience to the screen. The plot of The Final Girls and Totally Killer share plenty of similarities, including time travel, a masked murderer, and a mother-daughter bond.

The film is about a girl named Max Cartwright who lost her mother Amanda Cartwright in a car accident three years ago. Amanda was a horror movie actress who became famous because of her character Nancy in the cult slasher film Camp Bloodbath 1 & 2. Max is invited by her friend to share some words after the screening of her mother’s films. Something strange happens in the theatre and Max along with her friends trapped in the movie. Now, they have to face the serial killer and save their and Max’s mom’s life.

Todd Strauss-Schulson directed the film while the script was penned by M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller. The film is jointly produced by Michael London and Janice Williams under the banners of Groundswell Productions, Studio Solutions, and Ulterior Productions.

The Babysitter Film Series

Netflix’s slasher comedy two-part film series The Babysitter and The Babysitter: Killer Queen could be the best option after Totally Killer.

The Babysitter (2017) – Directed by McG and written by Brian Duffield, The Babysitter received positive reviews from the critics. It is about a boy Cole Johnson who finds her babysitter is part of a satanic cult that wants to kill him.

The Babysitter: Killer Queen (2020) – Sequel of The Babysitter, It was also directed by McG who co-wrote the screenplay along with Dan Lagana, Brad Morris, and Jimmy Warden. Two years after the events of the first film, Cole Johnson must again fight to ensure his survival after a secret is unburied, as he is hunted by demonic enemies, both old and new.

Fear Street Franchise

The Fear Street Trilogy is an American slasher horror film directed by Leigh Janiak. It follows the story of a couple of teenagers who work to break the curse that has been over their town for hundreds of years. The films are based on the horror fiction book of the same name published by R. L. Stine.

All three films received overall positive reviews from critics and fans all enjoyed. Fans have been expecting the arrival of the fourth part of the film but Netflix hasn’t confirmed anything about it. However, the director hinted at the possibility of future projects on Fear Street.

The film trilogy was shot back to back and released on Netflix on a weekly basis.
