During her training days at Juilliard School, she performed in stage productions such as Cymbeline, The Diviners, and Animal Farm. Soon after this, she began auditioning for television and film roles. In 2007, she made her acting debut with a short film titled Fighter where she starred as Sarah.
The next year, she made her television debut as Trini Martinez in the crime-drama series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In 2009, she got her career breakthrough role as Maria “Ria” Torres in the crime-drama series Lie to Me. She played a lead role in the series and earned recognition globally.
Furthermore, she starred in several films and television series but is best known for her role as Dana Lodge in The Good Wife (2011-12) and Gabriela Dawson in Chicago Fire (2012-19).
