Early Life & Education – Katherine Heigl was born on November 24, 1978, in Washington, D.C., United States. Her mother, Nancy Heigl (née Engelhardt) is a personal manager whereas her father, Paul Heigl, is an accountant and financial executive. She is the youngest of four siblings.
While growing up, she lived in Virginia and Denver and finally moved to New Canaan, Connecticut at the age of five. Her older brother Jason died in a fatal car accident in 1986 which led her parents to convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Katherine graduated from New Canaan High School in 1997.
Career – Having appeared in a number of commercials, she made her film debut in the 1992 film That Night which featured Juliette Lewis and C. Thomas Howell. In the next year, she was cast to play Christina Sebastian in Steven Soderbergh’s drama film King of the Hill. In 1994, she secured her first lead role in the comedy film My Father the Hero where she played Nicole Arnel.
The following year, she acted in the action thriller Under Siege 2: Dark Territory where she played Sarah, a 16-year-old girl travelling along with her uncle to visit her deceased father’s grave. Her appearances on the Television show The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with Conan O’Brien made her famous and helped her to get more acting roles. After then, she played the main role in Disney’s TV film Wish Upon a Star. In 1998, she starred in Jack Bender’s The Tempest, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play of the same name.
That same year, Katherine co-starred with Jennifer Tilly and Brad Dourif in the American horror comedy Bride of Chucky. The star then was cast in films Bug Buster, 100 Girls, and Valentine. After achieving success on the big screen, she turned her attention to the Television world after being selected for the role of Isabel Evans on Jason Katims’ science fiction Roswell. During this time, she acted in many TV shows including The Twilight Zone, Critical Assembly, Love Comes Softly, and Wuthering Heights.
