Early Life & Education – Gillan was born on 28 November 1987, in Inverness, to Marie and Raymond Gillan. She studied at Kinmylies Primary School and later moved to Edinburgh in order to learn acting. She attended prestigious Telford College where graduated in Acting and Performance. When she turned 18, she enrolled at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.

Career – During her time at TC, she was discovered by a modelling agency and got an opportunity to appear at London Fashion Week in 2007. She made her television debut in an episode titled “A Question of Blood” in the detective series Rebus. Shen then went on to make episodes appearances in the following TV shows Doctor Who, Stacked, Harley Street, and Coming Up.
