The young and talented actor Asa Butterfield is an English film and television actor. He is popularly known for portraying Otis Milburn in Netflix’s most popular series Sex Education. Early Life & Education – Asa was born on April 1, 1997, in London, to Sam Butterfield and Jacqueline Farr. His mother is a psychologist whereas his father is a copywriter for advertising. He has one brother and two sisters named Morgan, Loxie, and Marlie.

Asa studied at Stoke Newington School & Sixth Form which is located in Stoke Newington, in the London Borough of Hackney. In the meantime, he started taking acting lessons at the prestigious Young Actors Theatre Islington whose alumni include Ella Purnell.

Career – In 2006, he made his first television appearance, portraying a side role of Andrew in the drama TV film titled After Thomas. Following his television debut, he marked his film debut as well, playing the small role of Brethren Boy in the British comedy Son of Rambow which was inspired by First Blood.

In 2008, he made another small appearance on the BBC’s crime drama Ashes to Ashes where he was seen portraying the character of Donny in episode 6 of season 1. After this, he was chosen to play Mordred in the fantasy-adventure Merlin.

His breakthrough role came in 2008 when he was chosen to play one of the leading roles as Bruno in the Holocaust drama The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, adapted on John Boyne’s novel of the same name, along with Jack Scanlon who played the role of a Jewish boy named Shmuel. His outstanding performance won the heart of many and made the critics notice him for the very first time.

His other prominent role came somewhere in 2010 when he played the role of Norman Green in the fantasy-comedy “Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang alongside Emma Thompson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Maggie Smith, and Ewan McGregor. After portraying the heroic character Andrew “Ender” Wiggin in Ender Game, he earned critical acclaim and became one of the most talented actors in the industry.

He then appeared in several films and TV shows but his best-known performances include the titular character in Hugo (2011), Nathan Ellis in X+Y (later released in the US opting titled A Brilliant Young Mind), Jude Keffy-Horn in Then Thousand Saints (2015), Jacob “Jake” Portman in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016), and Otis Milburn in Sex Education (2019-Present).
