Early Life & Education – Mary Rose Byrne was born on July 24, 1979, in Balmain, New South Wales, Australia. Her father Robin Byrne worked as a statistician and market researcher whereas her mother Jane worked as an administrator in a primary school. Rose is the youngest of their four children. She received her education from Balmain Public School and Hunters Hill High School. Rose became interested in acting during school days which ultimately led her to enrol in Australian Theatre for Young People. Later, she went to Bradfield Senior College for further studies. In 1999, she attended Atlantic Theatre Company in order to pursue a professional acting career.

Career – In 1994, she commenced her acting career after securing a key role in the Australian black comedy film Dallas Doll. The very next year, Rose landed the main role in her first television series titled Echo Point where she played Belinda O’Connor alongside Liddy Clark, John Clayton, and Louise Crawford. Following this, she appeared in several TV shows including Fallen Angels, Wildside, Big Sky, and Heartbreak High. Her next role was in the 1999 crime drama Two Hands which featured Heath Ledger in the main role.

Rose starred as Jenny in the award-winning film My Mother Frank. Shortly after this, she obtained her first leading role as B.G. in Clara Law’s Australian film The Goddess of 1967. Her performance earned her huge popularity across the nation. She then made her Hollywood film debut after appearing in a small role in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. After this, she bagged roles in films I Capture the Castle, The Night We Called It a Day, The Rage in Placid Lake and Take Away in 2003. All films failed at the box office but The Rage in Placid Lake won her an AACTA Award nomination.

She was cast in the supporting role of Briseis in the 2004 film Troy which had Brad Pitt in the lead. The film received positive reviews and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Costume Design. She then went on to star in films like 28 Weeks Later, Knowing, Bridesmaids, Insidious, Insidious: Chapter 2, X-Men: First Class, and X-Men: Apocalypse.

In addition to her film roles, she is also known for her roles on television shows including Elizabeth in No Activity, Sheila Rubin in Physical, Sylvia in Platonic, and Ellen Parsons in Damages. Over the years, she won several films and nominations for her performances. Some of them are the Film Critics Circle of Australia Award in The Goddess of 1967 and the MTV Movie Awards in Bridesmaids.
