Renée Elise Goldsberry was born on 2 January 1971 in San Jose, California, USA. Her father worked as an executive in the automotive industry whereas her mother, Betty Sanders, was an Industrial psychologist. She has an older brother and two younger brothers.
At 8, she started taking acting classes. She was first introduced to theatre in summer camp. She was educated at the Cranbrook Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills and later went to Carnegie Mellon University where she earned a degree in theatre with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1993.
She then pursued her Masters of Music in Jazz Studies from the prestigious University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music.
In 1997, she made her television debut with a comedy-drama Ally McBeal, where she played as one of the backup singers. She then made her film feature debut as Jessica in the 2001 film Palco & Hirsch. The same year, she starred as Nicole Taylor in the romantic-comedy film All About You, for which her performance was accoladed.
As well as numerous film and television credits, Goldsberry is also known for her theatre work, including Dreamgirls, The Lion King, Two Gentlemen of Verona, and a few more.
