Lady Gaga Will Play Harley Quinn In Joker 2 Opposite Joaquin Phoenix

Joker is one of the most iconic characters or villains in cinema history. Joaquin Phoenix played the titular role in the 2019 psychological thriller film Joker which won numerous awards and nominations including the Academy Award for Best Actor and Best Original Score. Following the success of the film, its sequel has been announced which is currently in the pre-production stage. Lady Gaga is confirmed to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the second installment of the film.

DC Comics revealed the title teaser for the upcoming film Joker 2 on Thursday which is set to be a musical as per The Hollywood Reporter. Lady Gaga will be joining the cast, confirmed in the teaser, but what role she will be playing is not unveiled yet. Well, the teaser hints she will be romancing Arthur Fleck / Joker and likely playing Joker’s love interest named Harley Quinn.

Not much information about her character has been revealed at the moment. But according to the comics, Harley Quinn was a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum located in Gotham City who fell in love with Joker while treating him and became his sidekick and partner in crime.

DC Comics also unveiled the title of the project Joker: Folie à deux along with the release date. The phrase Folie à deux refers to a medical term for an identical or similar mental disorder affecting two or more individuals, usually the members of a close family. Joker 2 is scheduled to release on October 4, 2024.

Joaquin Phoenix will reprise his role as the iconic villain in the sequel of Joker. Todd Phillips returns to direct the sequel as well while the script is being penned by Joker’s co-writer Scott Silver and Todd Phillips.

Joker won numerous awards and nominations including the Academy Award for Best Actor and Best Original Score. It grossed over $1 billion worldwide and became the first R-Rated film to achieve this milestone.
