Early Life – Kelly was born on 23 February 1976 in Glasgow, Scotland to Archibald Macdonald and Patricia Kelly. Her parents divorced when she was pretty young, and she was raised by her mother who worked as a sales executive in the garment industry. She went to Eastwood High School in Newton Mearns from 1987 to 1993.
Career – Kelly was working as a barmaid in Glasgow when she saw a leaflet advertisement for an open casting for the comedy-drama film Trainspotting. She thought to give it a try and eventually won the role to play an underage seductress named Diane. That’s how she made her debut in the 1996 film Trainspotting. For her performance, she won a BAFTA Scotland Award nomination for Best Film Actress.
In the same year, she also kicked off her television career when she was selected to play Amy Ogilvie in the TV film “Flowers of the Forest”. Subsequently, she played Stella McGuire in the 1996 film Stella Does Tricks. It was her first leading appearance for which she received much appreciation from the audience.
Between 1998 to 1999, she starred in seven films, namely Cousin Bette, Elizabeth, Splendor, Entropy, The Loss of Sexual Innocence, My Life So Far, and Tube Tales.
