Kruger was born on 15 July 1976 in Algermissen, West Germany. She is the daughter of Hans-Heidkruger, a computer specialist, and Maria-Theresa, who worked as a banker. She attended Catholic school and furthermore, her mother sent her to student exchange programs where she studied English.
As a kid, she wanted to become a ballerina but she had to give up her dream after an injury in her knee. Later on, she moved to Paris and began working as a model.
